
Kate Lundsten

Kate joined
the Aquajets Swim Team as Head Coach in 2004. In
her current role, she is also the Board Chair of Newjets, Inc., the
non-profit parent organization of the Aquajets.
Kate swam competitively for 10 years, and has been a USA Swimming
coach for 20 years. She was the head coach
for the Eden Prairie High School Girls’ Swim Team for 10
years - winning 4 state titles! Kate was a recipient of
numerous coaching awards including State High School Coach of
the Year while at Eden Prairie high school. Kate is widely
recognized as a superior stroke technician and encourages and
promotes strong technic in practice.
Kate’s swimmers have achieved significant success - from
state and national records to qualifying for the
Olympic Trials.
Kate swam for Minnetonka High
School where she was team captain and winner of multiple state
championships. She was also a Junior National qualifier.
She attended college at
Hamline University and earned a B.A. in Art. She
was the captain of the Hamline Swim Team and a 24-time
All-American. Kate was a
Division III national champion and national record holder
in the 200 backstroke. She also was the Division
III national champion in the 100 backstroke and multiple relay
teams. She was awarded the Top Athlete Senior
Award at Hamline University.

Philip Nielsen
Asst. Head Coach

Coach Philip joined the Aquajets in 2004 after spend 4
years as the assistant head coach for a Minneapolis based swim
club. Philip swam competitively for 15 years
achieving success at all levels. Philip was a Junior National
qualifier, Top 16 qualifier, multi-year state champion in the
breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley events and an
NCAA qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
Philip has refined both his swimming skills and coaching skills
under the direction of several Olympic coaches. He has used
his skills to help multiple swimmers achieve top national rankings
in the breaststroke and butterfly.
He attended the acclaimed
Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida and college at
St. John’s University, earning a B.A. in Peace
Studies. Philip brings a high level of energy to
the team and unique skills to help swimmers achieve their
goals.

Dan Tripps
Development Coach
Email
Dan Tripps joined the
Aquajets in 2007, bringing a lifetime of competitive swimming
experience. He began his swimming career on the
West Coast, competing while living in California and
Oregon. In Oregon, Dan was a high school
state champion and an All-American, in addition to being a
multi-event Junior National qualifier. He
continued swimming as a US Nationals competitor. After high
school, he was recruited by the University of Minnesota and
finished his swimming career by competing on a Big Ten
record-setting 4 x 100 freestyle relay that ended up ninth at the
NCAA Championships.
After competing, Dan quickly became involved in coaching. He
has been an assistant or head coach of a few different high school
and USA clubs in the Minneapolis area and has become an ASCA
Level 4 certified coach. He is currently the head coach of
the Eden Prairie Girls’ high school.
Dan loves the
biomechanics and technical aspects of swimming and thinks the sport
is by far the best sport in the world. Dan loves
to laugh and whistle, kayak, golf (poorly), travel and shoot
photographs. If you can teach him a word in a
foreign language, he’d love to learn
it.

Sue Sathre
Development Coach

Sue has been a
member of the Aquajets coaching staff since 2003. Prior to joining the Aquajets coaching staff,
Sue coached the Eden Prairie High School Women’s
Swim Team for 2 years. Sue not only brings with her a
wealth of coaching expertise, but also her experience from over13
years of competitive swimming.
Sue swam for St. Olaf College
for 2 years earning All-American and All-MIAC swimming
honors. She was also an MIAC individual event
champion and set several school records in the 100 Butterfly and as
member of the 200 and 400 Medley Relays. She transferred to University of Minnesota in
1988 and earned a B.A in Psychology.
Sue was selected as a high school All-American
Honorable Mention and received All State honors for three
years in a row. She has set multiple high
school, pool and section swimming records. She was also voted MVP
and was team co-captain. Sue earned a total of 8
varsity letters in high school and was voted team captain of three
different sports her senior year. As an age group competitor, she
was an individual state champion and on several relay champion
teams with Mounds View Swim
Club.

Kelly Boston
Development Coach

Kelly joined the Aquajets in April 2007. She brings over 22 years of
competitive swimming experience to the Aquajet team. Kelly has swam at the highest levels of
competitive swimming, knowing what is required both physically and
mentally to achieve success. Not only is Kelly an experienced
swimming technique and conditioning coach, but she is also a
certified fitness instructor, specializing in strength
training and core fitness.
Kelly was a multi-year high school All-American, high school
state champion, state record holder and Junior National
individual and relay qualifier. As an age group
swimmer, she was a multiple state champion and record holder.
Kelly received a 4-year
Division I swimming scholarship to Butler University in
Indiana. While at Butler, Kelly earned multiple
honors for achievements both in and out of the pool. She
was a 4 year letter winner and was conference champion in multiple
events. She also held several Butler school
swimming records. As a sign of her leadership,
Kelly was named team captain by her coaches and teammates both
her junior and senior years. She earned a B.A.
in Communcations and continued her swimming career in the Masters
Program after college.

Shauna Riggs
Development Coach

Shauna has been
a development coach with the Aquajets for over 5 years. Shauna
brings a wealth of experience to the Aquajets as both a coach and
an elite swimmer. Shauna was an assistant
coach for the Eden Prairie girl’s high school team for 5
years and has coached summer country club programs for over 7
years. She coached the U of M team part-time her
5th year.
Shauna graduated from Eden
Prairie High School, where she was an All-American, All-Conference
and All-State swimmer. While swimming at Eden
Prairie, she was on 3 state championship teams, all coached by
Aquajet head coach Kate Lundsten. Coach Kate was Shauna’s
coach for 5 years while at Eden Prairie.
Shauna’s club swimming career was just as successful as her
high school career. She was a multi year,
multi event state champion for several age group seasons and long
course seasons.
After high school, Shauna swam
for the University of Minnesota for 4 years, where she excelled as
a swimmer and a leader. In her senior year, Shauna was named as
Captain of the Gophers and was named to the All-Big Ten Academic
Team. In addition, Shauna was awarded the Dorothy L. Sheppard
Leadership Award as a senior. Shauna received
her B.A. in Education
